Ok I have made a decision (I think...!!!). I'm going to move permanently to wordpress. All new posts will be there (Wordpress site)I don't like the fact I am restricting who has general access to this site and as yet blogger doesn't seem to allow one to lock specific posts. I'm going to restrict access to certain posts of the wordpress site (of course those will be the juciest, most interesting ones!) and if you want access you probably know the email address...or you can leave a comment and ask.It feels weird to be leaving blogger after 5 years or so, but until the security stuff changes it's time to move on.
So head on over to the new place. It's still a work in progress, but you'll be warmly welcomed. Leave me a comment to let me know what you think of the new home...

I feel slightly more recovered from the excesses of travel of the last few weeks. I'm taking some time off next week to just have some head space and catch up on private study and the like. I've also just realised the car needs an MOT pretty soon and I need to get my international driving licence sorted out quickly as time is moving pretty quickly towards our trip to Montenegro. So - I need some help. Should Pootle stay here, but be for invited readers only, or should I move to the wordpress site - what's your preference?

I found a frog in a bucket in our garden today. Where did he come from - did he hatch in our bucket? If so, where did the spawn come from? Will he survive?

So I'm setting up a wordpress blog to trial it for a while. The options are - this site remains, open and fully public; this site remains but is locked except to invited readers; everything goes to wordpress where specific posts will be password protected. Whatcha think?

So I'm back from Hamburg. The conference was overall a success. Some of our debates were not so great, some were really interesting. I didn't get to go shopping and therefore missed out on my German-fix, but I did get to meet up with the brother of Donalda and had a very fine evening drinking large amounts of beer and eating silly amounts of sausage. There was a small disaster on the first evening - I slipped on some steps getting onto a boat and hurt my foot. Luckily there was copious amounts of wine imbibed that evening as I think the pain would have been unbearable. It's still pretty bad - for several days I couldn't move my right foot!It was a weird time to be away from the UK. We got a new Prime Minister without an election which felt somewhat eerie. Then the terrorist attacks started. Most of conference delegate are high fliers and many of the Brits working within the 'Westminister Village' so we were desperately trying to keep up with the news of who had made it into the Cabinet, what was happening on the security front and ensuring that we remained focused on the topics of discussion. Being abroad at a time of such flux made it seem very unreal and possibly more scary that had I been at home going about my daily business. It's times like these, when we realise just how easy it is to track people down, and how easy it is for lives to be lost that we become so aware our nice little democratic country that allows us to be free agents with freedom of speech is, in reality, a very different beast. We are simply allowed to believe, and allow ourselves to believe that we are free. The reality is that we are observed and controlled very closely by the State.
